Why you should drop the mum guilt and prioritise yourself

So many of us have experienced the so-called “mum guilt”. And one of the reasons I hear so often from mums for not prioritising their health and well-being is guilt.

It can show up in so many ways:

-The guilt that you should be with your kids instead of working out.

-The guilt that you’re neglecting your increasingly long to-do list.

-The guilt that makes you believe that anything other than time spent on yourself is more important.

We all need to stop telling ourselves this ASAP!

You are so important. Your health matters, your wellness matters, your mood matters, YOU matter.

And isn’t it be better for EVERYONE when mum is happy and well? You have more energy, you’re happier, you have more patience and you’re just an all round better person for it.

We all know the saying - and the podcast -  “Happy Mum, Happy Baby” and it is so true. When mum is happy everyone else seems to be happier too.

So make a commitment to drop that guilt today. It may take some time for this to feel normal but it so important to start to make it a priority for you.

I would love you to do 3 things today:

  1. Make a list of all of the things you enjoy doing for yourself. Maybe it’s taking a bath, reading a magazine, practising yoga or going for a run. Jot down as many as you want. And make sure they bring a smile to your face when you imagine doing them.

  2. Do at least one of them today. Pick one that will work for you today and commit to it.

  3. Have zero guilt and enjoy every minute of it!
