Quiet Moments in Motherhood

I noticed the other day how much noise surrounds me in my day to day life. It seems constant at times. From the kids asking questions, noisy family cafes, kids TV and even the non-stop thoughts and worries about the never-ending to-do list. There’s a lot of noise going on and not much quiet and stillness.

I’ve also been extremely busy getting the studio ready, along with every thing else that comes with launching a yoga business which has meant that I’ve neglected my personal yoga practice recently and have had very few moments of stillness as a result.

The difference in my patience, my energy levels and my general wellbeing changes so quickly. It’s been a big reminder to me that no matter what is going on, we really should prioritise our well-being as mums.

So if you are also feeling overwhelmed, exhausted and craving some quiet then yoga real can support you in finding some stillness - and not just during class. Taking our yoga practice off the mat and into our parenting can help us deal with so many challenges that arise in motherhood.

Yoga's not just about yoga poses; it's also about mindful breathing and going within. When things get crazy, take a few minutes to focus on your breath. Deep inhale, slow exhale – it's like hitting the reset button for your mind and soul and you can do it anytime, anywhere when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

This is what I will be focusing on over the next couple of weeks. I know it will make me feel so much better mentally and physically and I also know it will help me parent with more patience, energy and empathy.

Trust me, I get it – finding "me time" seems impossible a lot of the time. But even if it's just a quick daily session, yoga can be your escape from the constant noise and offer you a chance to recharge. So next time you feel overwhelmed with all that motherhood brings (probably today;-)), prioritise quiet and stillness and see how it can help.
