Adding New Year Intentions for a Fulfilling 2024

As the New Year unfolds, we often find ourselves swept up in the world of resolutions – the things we promise to cut out or change. But what if this year, we flipped the script? What if we embraced the concept of adding rather than subtracting from our lives, especially as mothers navigating the beautiful chaos of motherhood?

For me, setting intentions traditionally involved a list of things I thought I needed to cut out or change about myself. The process felt like a mental checklist of restrictions – stop this, do less of that, eliminate certain habits. However, as I sat down recently to set my intentions for the new year, I had a thought: this approach felt inherently negative.

The whole experience left me feeling constricted, like I was chipping away at parts of myself instead of nurturing growth. That's when I decided to pivot my perspective. Instead of focusing solely on what I needed to eliminate, I started thinking what I could add to my life to make it more fulfilling.

Shifting my mindset from subtracting to adding felt good. Suddenly, setting intentions became less about deprivation and more about inspiration. I began thinking about what positive elements I could introduce into my daily routine.

Setting intentions this way is about infusing joy, growth, and fulfillment into my life, one intentional addition at a time.

This approach isn't just about setting goals; it's about fostering a mindset of abundance and expansion. Each intention becomes a stepping stone toward a brighter, more fulfilling future, and that, to me, is the essence of setting intentions in a positive light.

Some ideas of what you could use are:

-Move my body more often

-Spend more time outside

-Start a journaling habit

-Practice yoga and meditation a couple of times a week

-Start a new hobby

-Eat more whole foods

-Read inspiring books

Remember, it's not about radical transformations overnight. Small, consistent changes hold incredible power. Each small addition builds upon the next, creating a mosaic of positivity and fulfillment. If you haven’t yet read Atomic Habits by James Clear then I would highly recommend this. It discusses exactly this topic; small, powerful, daily habits.

As we step into this New Year, let’s welcome it with open arms and hearts. By adding meaningful intentions to our lives, we nurture ourselves, and gain more positivity.

Here's to a year of growth, joy, and enriching additions!
