3 reasons to do yoga with your kids
I’d always thought of yoga as quiet time for myself and not it couldn’t be that way then I didn’t do it. But I was struggling to fit it in around the kids most days. Then when I started doing yoga WITH the kids I wondered why I didn’t do it sooner.
Of course it isn’t as relaxing if the kids are young. It will be a different vibe to when to do get to practice alone and you will no doubt have distractions. But it is still yoga and you will still reap the benefits.
I should also point out that practicing with the kids doesn’t necessarily mean the kids are also doing yoga. Most of the time mine are
Running around, climbing, and then will copy a pose every now and then before moving on.
So here are 3 reasons why I’m enjoying including the kids in my yoga practice:
1.I get to do yoga more often
Scheduling things in these days is getting more difficult by the day and I was finding I was doing less and less yoga when I’d schedule it in but then something would inevitably come up. The baby wouldn’t nap when I expected, or someone woke up earlier than planned. So going with the flow is the way for me right now. When I have an opportunity I roll my mat out and just practice.
I tend to choose a shorter flow for these sessions, somewhere around 20 minutes or it can be difficult to complete the sequence. This time is a good amount for the kids to not lose too much interest too.
2. It’s a great way to bond with the kids
It’s another nice way to spend time together. Rather than going off to practice alone you get to share it with the kids. I have had some lovely and funny moments when doing yoga with the kids.
They will remember the times you spend doing this together and you can always incorporate ways of making it more fun. My daughter and I love to take turns ‘being the teacher’ and she loves to tell me what to do - often it’s not a yoga pose but we both end up smiling.
This also leads on to the final point…
3. They will be inspired by you
Getting them involved will have many positive benefits for the kids. We all know that our kids like to copy what we do and seeing you practice, taking care of your body and mind and incorporating well-being into your day will inspire them to do the same as they grow up.
Whether they grow into yogis or not, they will see that movement is important and a daily part of life. They will also see that it is important for you to do something positive for yourself.
So why don’t you try getting the kids involved in your practice and let me know how you all get on!!!
I’ll be including some sequences that the kids can get involved in when I launch my membership so sign up to my newsletter below to be the first to know about the launch!
