5 Ways My Yoga Practice Has Changed Since Becoming A Mum

Like most things in motherhood, my yoga practice has changed dramatically since becoming a mum.

It’s easy to fall into the mindset of wanting, or expecting your practice to just be how it used to be.

But that was not the case for me. So here are 5 ways my yoga practice has changed since I became a mum:

1.I practice yoga more for my mind than my body

Of course I still get physical benefits of practicing but I crave the stillness and space more than anything else.

2. I have no routine with yoga

I just do it when I can. And mostly practice for shorter times too. I just go with the flow, fit it in when I can and still make it a priority buy with zero pressure to achieve.

3.I practice more at home

Getting out to a yoga class isn’t very easy for me right now. Doing it online is so much more accessible, and what works well right now is on demand classes. Making plans ahead of time hardly ever works out with young kids so on demand is perfect.

4.I couldn’t care less about ‘fancy’ poses

I honestly don’t remember the last time I tried a handstand or headstand. I’m sure I’ll be back there one day but for now I’m loving the basics.

5.I’m often not alone on the mat

My kids love getting involved and I love it too. It’s not the calmest of practices but I do love knowing that they’ll grow up watching me practice and watching me prioritise my health and well-being and hopefully follow by example.

Can you relate to any of these? Hopefully so, and if not, then embrace them and watch your practice support you in motherhood.
