5 Yoga Poses to Wake You Up

As busy mums we could always do with a bit of an energy boost to get going. When you’re tired and haven’t slept for the tenth day in a row, the last thing you probably want to do is move BUT
moving your body can actually make you feel better and increase your energy levels and mood.

Honestly, there are so many yoga poses that can boost your energy as a tired mummy but these are my five go-to poses for a tired day. Give them a try next time you have 10 minutes and need to wake your body up.

1. Sukhasana

Spend a couple of minutes in this seated position connecting to your breath. Focus on deepening the breath and elongating the inhale and exhale. This in itself is an energy boost for me. Sit on a yoga block or on a folded blanket if that feels more comfortable

2. Cat/Cow

This wakes up the spine and gets the blood flowing. Do a few rounds of each, moving with your breath, inhaling to lift the gaze and exhaling to round the spine.

3. Downward Dog

This switches on so many muscles in the body to really wake the body up. Hold for four breaths and then rest on the knees, repeating a couple of times.

4. Warrior 1

Practice on both the left and the right sides and bring attention to your breath. Hold for as long as you feel the muscles working harder and it feels like a challenge.

5. Tree pose

I find this pose just makes me smile and makes me feel good and that always boosts my energy in itself. Take one of the three options of the lifted leg position. either have foot with the toes resting on the floor, place the foot on the calf or raise the foot to the inside thigh. Play around and see what works for you. Repeat on the other side.

Hope this helps to wake you up on those days when just making breakfast feels like a challenge!
